Application for Permanent Residency in Canada

The Ontario Ministry of Training,Colleges and Universities has issued updated fee regulations for students who have applied for permanent residency in Canada. Beginning in the summer 2010session, students who are permanent resident applicants are eligible for domestic fees only if they have a letter from Citizenship and Immigration Canada which has one of these statements:
"It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent resident status.
or
"We have completed the initial assessment of your application and expect to finalize your application without a personal interview."or
"This refers to your application for permanent residence in Canada, your interview has been waived.
or
"This refers to your application for permanent residence within Canada on humanitarian and compassionate grounds."

Under the Ministry’s new regulations, to qualify for exemption from the international fee rate,
only letters with one of the exact statements shown above can be accepted. The University auditor has also stated that only these letters will be acceptable to pass the audits.
If any current or incoming student indicates that they are applying for permanent residency and receives a letter with any of the above statements – that letter should be forwarded to the Bennett Centre – (details below). Once verified the student will be eligible for domestic fees.
There are a lot of different types of letters that students have regarding their applications for permanent residency, but please ensure that only letters which have the acceptable wording are forwarded as any others no longer qualify.
SUBMISSION OF LETTERS:
1. Students may bring their letter to Student Client Services, Bennett Centre.
There is no need to wait in line and see a service representative to submit completed forms. Drop off documents (in a sealed envelope – clearly marked with your student number) in the drop box on the main floor of the Student Services Centre. If you have questions, come and see us in person.

2. Programs may scan the letter and send directly to Susan Chisolm Milligan at susancm@yorku.ca or FAX: 416-650-8124 (please include student #).
